Medieval Castle set in extensive Country Park

Visit Caldicot Castle in its beautiful setting of tranquil gardens and a wooded country park. Founded by the Normans, developed as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a romantic and colourful history. Find out about its past with a taped tour, explore the medieval towers and take in the breath-taking views from the battlements. Enjoy a leisurely game of chess or drafts, using giant playing pieces, or relax in the gardens and grounds. The Children’s Activity Station includes tree and leaf identification, medieval herbs and spices to touch and smell, map-making and the chance to make a castle to take home. The Castle Shop stocks a range of high quality gifts, books, toys and souvenirs and the Tea Room serves light refreshments. The Country Park has a children’s play area, picnic tables, barbecue hearths and countryside walks. An active programme of events and activities runs throughout the year. The site offers free parking and toilets. Group and educational bookings are welcomed. The castle is open daily from March to October from 11am to 5pm. Cost of admission is £1.50 for adults and 85p for senior citizens and children aged between 5 and 18. A family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children costs £4.00.
