The estate has been in the same ownership since the 15th century. The magnificent gardens, a series of stunning "rooms" feature the double herbaceous border, reputed to be the oldest in England, topiary, cottage, scented and herbed gardens and beside the Chapel, the Grove, a less formal area with collections of exotic trees and shrubs, rhododendrons and azaleas. The Hall, rebuilt in the Victorian-Jacobean style is open on Tuesdays and Sundays only. (charge extra)
