Meet colourful 17th Century characters

At Torrington 1646 visitors travel through a "time tunnel into the main exhibition hall where there are a number of displays and "hands on" activities which depict life in Great Torrington in the 17th century. A touch screen display guides visitors through a series of questions to decide whether they would have been a Cavalier - or a Roundhead.
A costumed 17th century character speaking in period language then leads visitors through a reconstruction of some of the scenes in the town towards the end of the battle for Great Torrington on the night of February 16th in 1646. After this unique experience the visitor can stroll through a living history area in the company of other 17th century characters. Here they can perhaps try on some armour or play 17th century games or try their hand with a 17 foot long pike. Afterwards they are taken to the Physic Garden to learn some of the secrets - and myths about 17th century medecine. The experience is completed by a visit to the coffeee shop and the souvenir shop. Allow at least an hour for your visit!
