About

Where Elizabethan history began

The magnificent Jacobean house is the home of the Marquess of Salisbury. The exquisite gardens have been recreated by the Marchioness in the original style influenced by John Tradescant the Elder and now managed entirely organically. Within them is the surviving wing of the Palace which was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth 1 and now extensively used for weddings and banquets. A visit to Hatfield is enhanced by the national collection of model soldiers, a children’s play area, 5 miles of marked park trails, shops and a licensed restaurant.OPEN: 25 March - 24 September (closed Good Friday) House: Tuesday - Thursday 12 noon – 4pm, Saturday & Sunday 1pm – 4.30pm & Bank Holidays 11am – 4.30pm. Fridays (Connoisseurs’ Day): Park & all Gardens, 11am – 6pm
